This is what's called an aircheck in the radio world. It features all the talk breaks from my weekly hour 'One Take T's One Man Show'. You can listen to me goof off every Tuesday at 1pm Eastern through the free RadioFX app available on iOS and Android devices, or listen to the internet stream. If you're one of the lucky few to live in Central Jersey who ALSO happens to have an HD radio, you can tune into WWFM HD-3 to listen.
Being on the radio has been an amazing experience, one that I began last semester. I won't lie to you dear reader... it was 100% required for a grade. However, it was an absolute blast and here I am again on the airwaves in the spring semester. And hey! It's all by my own accord this time. It's basically like that intoxicating power surge when you're with a group of friends and you get the aux cord in the car. I just pick what I like to listen to and hope the listener does too! A lot of student radio stations give you that kind of freedom. As long as it's as clean as a Disney channel original TV show, I can play it on the air.
You'll hear me make some announcements during my aircheck as well, as it's important for all student deejays to make relevant announcements. It's bolstering a skill called 'live reading' which is as tricky as it sounds. These live reads are done the same way as commercials (a.k.a. spots) on popular radio stations, so it's great experience! You'd think as a voice actor that it would be my bread and butter, but improvising off of a flyer not written for voiceover is harder than you might think, especially considering us deejays have to avoid dead air!
All in all, if you're an audio/music student or aspiring voice actor, I wholeheartedly recommend you give deejaying a try if you have access to a student radio station. You get to share your personality, your music tastes, network, improve your board skills, your vocal delivery and your planning too! I tried it and I'd never have it any other way!
Huge fan of your voice work! Fun to read your insights into the DJ experience.
